Failed to summit the Kinsmans
Failed to summit the Kinsmans. Stayed over the weekend at Lonesome Lake Hut with AMC SEM (amcsem.org). Around 9:30am we started heading up Fishing Jimmy. The goal was to hit at least one, if not both, Kinsmans. This was my first time using snowshoes and they were great. However the trail was significantly icier than the practice hike the leaders took earlier in the week. Without crampons, it quickly became too much for many of us, and so we cut our losses and headed back to the hut without reaching the end of the trail. From here on out, I don't intend to be without crampons or an ice axe in the winter.
